Ice time and tourists

The Mendenhall Glacier Visitors Center was completed in 1962. Since then, the Mendenhall Glacier has retreated nearly 1.75 miles, leaving a large lake between the vistors center and the nearest edge of the glacier. In this studio, students were asked to work in small groups to propose designs for a new visitors center based on principles of glaciology, climate science, and landform building. University of Oregon Department of Architecture, 2016.
